10 Struggles that Non-native English Speaker Must Deal With

English language has been used as a global language. I think everyone should learn English. If we don't, I bet we will be living under a rock forever. But there's always some problem that make us, non-native English speaker, must deal with.

1. Pronunciation
Sometimes when we're trying to speak English, we mixed up with our own language. For example, the word 'call' should be pronounce as '/kôl/ , but we pronounce it as '/kal/'.

 2.Vocabulary
Well, sometimes English just like an alien language for us. We better bring dictionary everywhere. Thank you for google translator, everything will goes well.

3. The Lack of Listening to English words
"Pardon me, but would you say it again?" or "Come again?" are the sentences we should definitely remember.

4. Spell the Words Incorrectly
It's not 'baby sister', it's baby sitter! Don't forget about trend setter, which some people keep saying it as 'trend center'.

5. That Annoying Non-native English speaker
These people who can't really speak English and keep saying the same words, over and over again. These kind of people also trying to make themselves sound like western people.

6. The Lack of Grammar
Of course grammar is important, but we still always make grammar mistakes. But we don't give up to understand the beauty of English Grammar.

7. Language Accent
Everyone has their own accent, right? So does Balinese. For example, we actually should say "very" in 'thank you very much but it comes out "thank you peri much" instead. We slighty change "V" sound into "Pi".

8.Foreigners Accent
We could easily understand when American speaks to us (yeah, I guess). American usually speaks with clearly sound and has similarity to the way Indonesian speaks. This is the list from the easiest to the most difficult foreigners accent according to Balinese. (No racism here)
  1. American
  2. Filipinos
  3. Singapore
  4. Indian
  5. British
  6. Australian
That list is not included foreigners which English is not their first language, whom actually harder to understand with their own accent. But it's okay, we also have trouble with our own accent.

9. Suddenly Forgot the Words
Sometimes when we are trying to say something, we forgot how to say it, and what kind of word we should use. We ended up by using body language instead. Problem solved.

10. Our Fear of Speaking English
Because we don't have enough vocabulary or good knowledge of grammar, we are afraid to speak  English. It's like, the desire of being perfect in English is killing us. But mistakes are part of learning, right? We should keep in our mind that practice makes perfect.

Some people said, that would be enough if you just remember "yes" or "no". That's actually mean, before you answer with "yes" or "no", be sure to understand what foreigners said. To understand what foreigners said, we should learn more, and practice more. Nothing is impossible, including to be fluent in English.
